Thoughts on COVID-19

We are all facing unprecedented challenges due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) global outbreak. The SCAN Foundation stands with older adults, those with complex care needs, and their caregivers. Our hearts and minds are with you.

We share these ideas on ways to cope with the near and long-term effects of this pandemic—because we are all in this together.

  1. KNOW you are not alone
    • Top-quality information is essential. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the best source for information at Coronavirus.gov.
    • Check out the California Department of Aging’s Stay Home. Save Lives. Check In. pledge and resources.
  2. GROW a circle of support
    • Keeping physical distance does not have to mean social isolation.
    • Check out this AARP resource on safe ways to stay connected to family, friends, and neighbors.
    • Find ways to be of service while keeping physical distance. Check out this list from California Volunteers.
  3. SHOW strength, ask for help

The SCAN Foundation remains open for business. Our team is working remotely during regular business hours (8:30 AM to 5 PM, Pacific Time).

Aging and Caregiving

Hollywood, Health & Society is partnering with the Writers Guild of America to connect screenwriters and experts on a variety of COVID-19 topics. Recently, Dr. Chernof and the California Department of Aging’s Kim McCoy-Wade discussed older adults and caregiving. Watch the recording here.
